About Zeeland City, MI.

 A city located at the western edge of the Zeeland Charter Township, in Ottawa county of Michigan, Zeeland had a population of 5,504 as of the 2010 census. The city’s name was derived from a province in the Netherlands known as Zeeland. When 500 Dutch citizens sailed to America in 1847, they settled on a piece of land that had been previously occupied by the Odawa people and named it after their home province, Zeeland. They were led by a land owner, Jannes Van de Luijster. The village developed rapidly and in 1907, it became a city with a population of about 3000.
 The town has an approximate area of 7.80 km2 with 7.74 km2 being land and 0.05 km2 being water. With the population of 5,504, the Census indicated that there were 1,426 families and 2,246 households living in the city. The city had a population density of 710.7/km2 and 2,446 housing units at an average density of 315.9/km2. The town had a medial age of 38.8 years and a gender makeup of 55.2% female and 44.8% male.
 Zeeland has several renowned manufacturing industries. They include Mead Johnson, Plascore, and Gentex. It also has two furniture factories, Herman Miller, and Howard Miller, with Howard Miller also manufacturing clocks. These companies offer employment to a good number of the city’s population.
