About Cannon Twp, MI.

Cannon is a small city dotted with multiple glittering lakes and has many beautiful parks and nature trails that take full advantage of Cannon's stunning natural beauty. Cannon's first house and road were built around 1840 and farming fueled the local economy early on, but no farms remain today. The city split from another town called Plainfield in 1845 and was originally known as "Churchtown" in 1846. Three years later the city received its present name after the largest nearby village of Canonsburg, MI.
Cannon's most prominent parks are Luton Park in the northwest, Pickerel Lake Park in the east and the Canonsburg State Game Area in the south. Cannon is also home to a sprawling country club, a thrilling downhill and cross-country skiing area, summer watersports and the Grand Rapids Symphony Picnic Pops concert series during the summer months. The city is at the center of three Michigan school districts: Rockford Public Schools, Lowell Area Schools and Forest Hills Public Schools.
With a total population of slightly more than 12,000 people, Cannon could be described as a sort of "everybody knows everybody" community. Most families could be considered at least upper-middle class with poverty almost nonexistent within the city limits, an impressive feat for any city large or small. Homes tend to be quite large in this city, averaging about 3 or 4 bedrooms, and are mostly occupied by their owners rather than by renters. 97% of the city's population is White and in their mid-30s. Most of the residents are employed in the healthcare, education and construction industries and most residents hold a bachelor's degree.
