Algoma is a small bedroom community in Kent County located less than half an hour away from Grand Rapids and overflowing with pristine natural beauty. The city can get quite a bit of snowfall in the winter, averaging approximately 20 inches of snow on average. Algoma was originally settled in 1843 with the area formally recognized as an independent township in 1849. A long river runs through Algoma's rich greenery from the southwest to the southeast of the city and it is home to 8 sparkling lakes with the city's largest lake, Camp Lake, located in the city's northwest.
Algoma is also divided by State Road 131 along its eastern border, providing easy access to the highway if needed. The city is rich in fertile farmland with over 100 farms reported in 2008. The city's natural beauty makes it an ideal home for its 5 beautiful parks, huge golf course and Little League, giving its children a variety of safe and beautiful places to play.

The city itself is home to one elementary school, one middle school and one high school, with many students choosing to pursue a career immediately after their high school graduation.
