Ada is located in Ada Township, approximately 6 miles east of Grand Rapids, MI in central Kent County.  This picturesque town is located at the mouth of the Thornapple River flowing into the Grand.  The town is full of country charm and its downtown area and adjacent mall are accented by colonial and country style buildings and small shops.Ada has outstanding natural features that have resulted in a number of regional recreational facilities that are located in the area, including a large County park and amazing State Game Area lands.  There are four community parks operated by the township government and several school facilities that are available to the public.  There are over 1,000 acres of public land available for recreational events.  The Township offers various free activities and has a spectacular Fireworks display every July 3rd.  The township board has voted and purchased for the residents Park and Open space property of over 400 acres and more than 300 acres of this property is Riverfront property for the public to use.

History
Ada Township was founded in 1821 where the Grand and Thornapple Rivers meet in Western Michigan.  Rix Robinson of New York purchased the trading post from Magdelaine Laframboise, she was the granddaughter of Ottawa Indian Chief Kewinaquot and daughter of French-Candian Fur Trader Jean Baptiste Marcot.  Ada was the first settlement in Kent County.  The first Caucasian baby born in the settlement was named Ada and that is why the town is called Ada. 
The Detroit & Milwaukee Railroad built a station here in 1853, which led to the further development and stabilization of the town during and after the lumber era.

Ada Township population has grown to approximately 15,391 people.  The median age is 39.27 year.  The median household income is $105,952.
