The area was settled in 1837 when Charles and Jonathon Galloway and Charles Haight moved here. The area was named for the dense forests in the area. Woodland is located in Barry County in the northeastern corner. The town is a small agricultural town that is a bedroom community to the Lansing and Grand Rapids areas. It has its own village form of government and elementary school.
