About Vergennes Twp, MI.

 Vergennes is a civil township in Kent County, Michigan. It was first settled in 1836 by Sylvester Hodge. The land was initially wild but with time it was converted to farms. Several streams had mils erected on them, villages built, and schools constructed. There were two communities, Fallasburg and Fox’s corner that existed between 1836 and 1901. Lowell city and Vergennes City are sister towns with one settlement divided only by the township line.
 
 The township of Vergennes was estimated to have a population of 3,611 in the 2000 census. Its total area is 92 km2 with 90 km2 land and 1.8 km2 of water. The population had 970 families and 1,142 households. With a population density of 40.2/km2, there were 1,209 housing units at an average density of 13.4/km2. The gender makeup of the township was for every 100 females there were 103.6 males. The median incomes for household and a family were $61,500 and $62,313 respectively. Females had a median income of $ 31,754 while that for males was $47,723. $21,339 was the per capita income of the township.
 
 Although Vergennes’ land is still rural, the land is developed, farmed or wooded. Vergennes also has 1500 acres of public land that includes an 800 acre Lowell State Game area. On the shores of the flat River, a state-designated Natural River, there is the 530 acre Fallasburg Park that is very popular in the region. The Lowell airport also offers landing space for private aircrafts.
