Trufant is in the Maple Valley Township as well as portions of Pine Township and a small area in Spencer Township. The first water-powered sawmill was built there by Emery Trufant in 1872. The village was platted on March 10, 1875 and it was named after Trufant. Trufant is located on Muskellonge Lake in Montcalm County. The town is primarily agricultural but it has many tourist attractions. There are many summer cottages and the town is famous for its flea market which is held every Thursday.
Trufant has a population of 1,240 people and has seen a population growth of 6.94 percent since the 2000 census. The median home cost is $112,670 and unfortunately due to the economy has not seen homes appreciate. Trufants cost of living is 22.24% lower than the U.S. average. The median age is 35 years of age and the median income is $40,433. There is only an Elementary School in the area.
