Solon Township is a civil township located in Kent County, Michigan. The township’s population was at 4,662 in 2000 with an area of 94.1 km2. 92.8 km2 is land, and 1.3 km2 is covered by water. The 2000 census indicated that there were 1,310 families and 1,682 households in the township. The density of the population was 50.2/km2 with 1,778 housing units that had an average density of 19.2/km2. The median income for the household and the family was $44,814 and $50,439. The females’ median income was $27,451 while that for males was $36,736. These resulted in a per capita income of $17,540.For every 100 females in the Township, there were 101.8 males.
The township being located near the divide between the Grand and Muskegon rivers, it is relatively level but rather swampy to the eastern part. The township has a large number of pine trees while some other trees such as beech, maple, and grand oak also thrive well in some parts. The southeastern part of the township has the greater number of the population while most of the northwestern part consists of dense forests. The township also has lakes and streams that include; Jordan Lake, Duke Creek, Mud Lake, Cedar Creek and Long Lake.
