HISTORY

David S. Pierson acquired forty acres of land here in 1856.  Pierson founded the community while it was still part of Mecosta County with Dexter Clark and John L. Shar.  On January 29, 1857 he opened the first post office.  It was platted in 1870 and incorporated as a village in 1873.

 

POPULATION

In 2009 Pierson’s population is 182 people.  It has had a population growth of 0.54 percent since the 2000 cnesus.  The median age is 27 years and the median household income is $42,310.  The racial makeup is 94.6% White, 3.2% Native American, 0.5% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races, 2.2% Hispanic or Latino.
