HISTORY
In 1843 the village was named for its proximity to Middle Village. Middleville is located in Thornapple Township. It was incorporated as a village in 1867. The first settler to own land in the village was Calvin G. Hill. He was a native New Yorker and he bought 400 acres of land in 1834 on both sides of the Thornapple River. The village was surveyed and subdivided before 1850, the plat was not officially recorded until 1859. The post office was established at the house of Benjamin S. Dibble. He was appointed postmaster in July 1839 and continued until 1842. POPULATION The population of Middleville is 2,733 people. The growth since the 2000 census is 2.21 percent. The racial makeup is 95.74% White, 0.18% African American, 0.44% Native American, 0.74% Asian, 1.18% from other races and 1.73% from two or more races, 2.17% Hispanic or Latino. The median age was 30 years and the median household income in the village was $41,947. EDUCATION The Thornapple Kellogg Schools is the school district in Middleville. There are 3 elementary school, McFall Elementary (K-1st grade), Lee Elementary (2nd-3rd grade), Page Elementary (4th-5th grade), Middle School (6th-8th grade), High School (9th-12th grade). The district spends $5,478 per student and there is an average of 20 students per teacher in Middleville.
