HISTORY
The city began in 1832 and is referred to as Thompson’s Corners. The first houses were built by the widow Thompson and her son opened a son there. The Michigan Legislature named the surrounding township after Lucius Lyon who was one of its members. The town has preserved its old hotel and the First Presbyterian Church which adds to the town’s historical look. POPULATION The population in July 2008 was 713. The median age is 37.1 years and the median household income is $44,218. The racial makeup is 94.4% White, 2.2% American Indian, 2.2% two or more races, 2.1% Hispanic and 0.8% other races.
