About Lowell Twp, MI.

1831 Lowell was founded as a trading post on the south bank of the Grand River by Daniel Marsac.  He platted some land on the north side of the river in 1847 and called it “Dansville”.  The post office was established in 1851 and named “Lowell” after the township.  In 1854 the community was replatted and renamed after the post office. It was incorporated as a village in 1861.
 
 As of 2009, Lowell's population is 4,164 people. It has had a population growth of 3.19 percent since the 2000 census.  The racial makeup of the city was 96.21% White, 0.57% African American, 0.62% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Island, 0.72% from other races, 1.32% from two or more races, 2.14% Hispanic or Latino.  The median age is 34 years and the median household income is $42,326.
 
Lowell has seven schools within its public school district: the high school, middle school, 4 elementary schools, and Unity high school. There are around 4000 students in the district and the district is growing every year.
The Lowell School District has one private school, St. Patrick School.  It is a preschool through 8th grade and the curriculum is a comprehensive, faith-based curriculum.
The Schools is nicknamed the Red Arrows and they participate in Division for all sports according to the Michigan High School Athletic Association. The schools major participation is in football and wrestling where they have won many state championships.
Lowell public schools spend $5,858 per student.  There are about 19 students per teacher ratio.
