History
The city of Grant is named after President ad Civil War General Ulysses S. Grant. The history of “Grant Center” starts in 1882. Andrew J. Squier built the first saw mill and a railroad station was built on the Pere Marquette Railroad in Grant Center.

The population for Grant was 856 as of July 2008. The median age is 32.4 years of age. The median household income as of 2007 was $34,945. The racial make-up is 88.1% White, 10.3% Hispanic, 2.3% two or more races, 2.0% other races, 0.8% American Indian.
Education
The Grant Public School District consists of four main school buildings all located near each other. There are 2 Elementary schools, 1 Middle School and 1 High School. The student enrollment is 2,400 and is the second largest in Newaygo County
