History

In 1838 Daniel North founded the town and built a sawmill there.  In 1848 the town was named Mill Creek and became a station on both the Grand Rapids & Indiana and Chicago & Western Railroads.  The town was renamed Comstock Park in 1906 after Charles C. Comstock who was a representative in Congress.  The town is best known as the location for Old Kent Park.  The area is growing rapidly with many new housing developments

As of 2009, Comstock Township’s population is 15,459 people it has had a population growth of 9.15 percent since 2000.  The racial makeup is 87.30% White, 3.91% African American, 0.77% Native American, 1.92% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 3.33% from other races and 2.73% from two or more races, 7.22% Hispanic or Latino.  The median age is 27 years old and the median household income is $40,203.

Education

Comstock Park Public Schools consists of Stoney Creek Elementary School, Greenridge Elementary School,  Pine Island Elementary School, Mill Creek Middle School, Comstock Park High School and North Kent Alternative High School.  Comstock township public schools spend $6,549 per student and there are about 17 students per teacher.
