History

In 1866 Carson City was first platted on land owned by R.M. Abbott, Delia Miner and Hiram T. Sherman, it was then recorded in 1871.  John and Thomas LaDue and Thomas Scott built a sawmill in 1868 and a grist mill in 1870.  Hiram T. Sherman was the first postmaster.  The name Carson City was given to the post office by Thomas Scott, he had been in Carson City, Nevada during the gold and silver mining days.  In 1887 Carson City was incorporated as a village and in 1960 it became a city. 

 

 

Population

As of 2009, the population of Carson City is 1,184 people, it has had a population growth of 1.51 percent since 2000.  The racial makeup of Carson City is 95.04% White, 0.50% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 2.10% from other races and 1.85% from two or more races and 4.54% Hispanic or Latino.  The median age is 36 years and the median income for a household is $32,500.

Carson City has 2 Elementary schools, 1 middle school and 1 high school.  Carson City Public Schools spend $5,725 per student.  There are about 20 students per teacher.
