Is known as the “Cereal City”, it is the world headquarters of Kellogg Company. Brothers Will Keith Kellogg and Dr. John Harvey Kellogg invented cold breakfast cereals. Battle Creek is the 3rd largest city of Michigan, by area after Detroit and Grand Rapids.
HISTORY
The name Battle Creek came from a skirmish between a government land survey party and two Indians. The village of Battle Creek began as a market and mill center for prairie farmers. Sands McCamly found an ideal location for a settlement when he came to the meeting of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo rivers in 1831. Battle Creek has been known as the Queen City, Health City and the International City, today it is known as the Cereal City. Battle Creek was known around the world. It was the basic training site for American Soldiers during both world wars.
