Baldwin is the county seat for Lake County. It is located at the junction of M-37 and US-10. Baldwin is one of Michigan’s top water recreation areas. It is known for its specialty fishing lure and equipment shops. The town is the center of activity for the many resorts and cottages in the area. Baldwin is a destination location for canoers. It is on the Baldwin River, 3 miles north of where it runs into Pere Marquette River. There are over a dozen lakes within five miles of the city limits. Baldwin is primarily known as a tourist town, much of its economy is based around the summer months. Baldwin is a great place to vacation or purchase a lakefront summer home, with superb canoeing, camping, fishing, and hunting.
As of 2009, Baldwin’s population was 1,182 residents. It has had a growth in population of 2.98 percent since the 2000 census. The median home cost in Baldwin is $59,620.
